I have this … old friend, no longer a friend. She has cut other people out of her life, those who stayed after me, but hasn’t cut me out of her life. A part of me knows why … it is for the same reason that so many others keep me in their lives, but are not actually my friend. They choose to keep me around as a future connection/network. A self-centered statement, I am aware. But, I have also been told that I am kept as a “connection” by many people, and how one day, they are going to come to me for a favor.
People should know by now though, a network/connection is not simply knowing someone, but moreso being on good terms and having a good impression with that person. I would never work with, or recommend, someone that I did not have respect for or believed to have good qualities about them. Those who keep me, and others, around as a “connection” but does not foster this relationship, is a fool and has no understanding of what networking is actually about.
Would you freely recommend someone that you were once friends with, but no longer was? If they came back and asked for your help/recommendation?
