I’m at a loss… of comprehension. Of belief. Of…seriously, what the fuck?!?!
30 Republicans voted AGAINST Al Franken’s Anti-Rape bill. Al Franken submitted a bill to Senate stating that the government should not hire contractors that have an “anti-rape liability clause”. This clause basically states that if you, an employee, are raped by other employees of the company, you cannot sue the company. So, Al Franken submitted the bill because… ugh… DUH. It’s a protection of human rights.
So what happened? 30 REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST THE BILL.
What the fuck? Seriously? Of all things to vote against, this is it? What bullshit.
Well, we now know who is being funded by Halliburton.
What prompted this bill: The UK Guardian – All rape cases must go before the law

So, today, I got a comment from someone in response to my Miley Cyrus Controversial Picture post. The comment boiled my blood. The ignorance of some people is astounding, and how fans can be blinded by their devotion to their idol is amazing. The comment left was this:
“How is slanting ur eyes mockin asians
I am Part indian which is part of the asian background and i do not find that offensive at all.
Personaly i think the people in ths pic are ur everyday havin a laugh wid ur friends type students and i dnt think the girl in the middle is Miley Cyrus all though she luks like her a litte bit i dnt think it is her.”
That comment is word for word people, I did a straight copy and paste. My response? Well frankly, I can’t believe someone could even type something like that. I thought about replying straight to their comment in the comment queue, but then I decided that no, I’m going to put it right here. The following is what I had typed in reply, but instead, it has been placed here.
“Are you serious? If you are part Indian and don’t understand how slanting your eyes is mocking Asians, then you need to move outside of your own culture and remove your ignorance. Just because you don’t find it offensive does not mean that others don’t find it offensive. On top of that, did I not state in the post as to how I found it offensive and my experiences of racism as a child?
There is “havin a laugh wid ur friends type students” and then there is doing something that is offensive and racist, especially when you are in the public eye. As for this being Miley Cyrus… are you living under a rock? It was all over the news and she has been forced to apologize twice for it (because the first time was a load of BS) and a law suit was filed against her. If you are a fan of hers, good… but don’t be so blinded by your devotion to her that you choose to look over her mistakes and ignore the reality of her life and actions.”
Comments? Am I out of line? Or is the commentor just an idiot?

My Generation July 6, 2009

My generation’s young adult years, the years that start to form who we are, are being shaped and molded by issues we (much less anyone else) never thought we’d have to face.
An economic depression that has crushed our dreams of what we thought how our career, jobs, and life would begin. A depression that has taken an entire generation by surprise and left us unsure of what to do, how to find a job, and how to build a life.
A war that has left us with young veterans, whose minds will never be right. Who would rather go back to the war, than to live their lives out. A war that has left my generation with grief, sorrow, and an explicit knowledge of what it means to know someone in war, someone who has died in action, injured in combat … a generation that knows what it means to kill someone or be killed and how to engage in combat.
A “quarter-life crisis” … seriously? That is just ridiculous, but true. It sounds absurd, but it makes sense. My generation is dealing with this stage of not knowing what to do with life, having been raised with the knowledge that a degree would get you what you wanted, and to always seek out what makes us happy. This has left us forever seeking happiness, allowing the simplest thing to make us unhappy and topple our entire world. This has given a society that is now over-saturated with degrees, making the competition crippling.
This along with everything else that normal young adult years bring … and we are a generation fucked. For the time being. We’ll figure a way out, every generation always figures it out eventually.
The real question is, how will this affect my generation and who we become? How will this affect the generation that we give birth to? Our generation was shaped by the teachings and ideals of our parents, and so will the generation we bring to the world. I guess only time will tell.
